Description: Manages subscriber access configuration on Broadband Access Systems (BAS) CMTS, including authentication and service profiles.
Start monitoring vendor-neutral, standards-based MIB, any SNMPv3-capable network device (SNMP engine identity/boot/clock status) with a free 30-day trial of IPNetwork Monitor. Import MIBs, browse SNMP OIDs, create custom SNMP monitors, configure alerts, and monitor any SNMP-enabled network device from a single console.
What Is BAS-ACCESS-MIB?
BAS-ACCESS-MIB is a proprietary configuration MIB from Broadband Access Systems, Inc. for controlling SNMP/network-management access to its CMTS (cable modem termination system) broadband access platform. It defines an access table keyed by chassis, slot, interface, and logical port that specifies SNMP community names, IP addresses, and access profiles/status permitted to manage that portion of the chassis. Rather than exposing hardware sensors, it governs and reports the management-access configuration itself -- which community strings and hosts are authorized to reach a given card/port -- a security/operational-status concern administrators track to ensure only intended management stations can configure the CMTS. It is one of a family of BAS-*-MIB modules sharing the same chassis/slot/interface/logical-port addressing scheme across chassis, cluster, and routing functions. It is deployed by cable operators (MSOs) managing Broadband Access Systems CMTS chassis in their headend/hub facilities, where BAS-ACCESS-MIB SNMP monitoring verifies which hosts are authorized to reach each card.
IPNetwork Monitor allows you to monitor SNMP objects defined in BAS-ACCESS-MIB. Use the built-in SNMP Monitoring Browser to explore available variables, view their current values and descriptions, and select the objects you want to monitor. You can then create SNMP monitors, configure thresholds, and receive alerts when monitored values change.
Supported Devices
- Broadband Access Systems (BAS) CMTS
- cable headend broadband access chassis
Monitoring Examples
An operator inspects basAccessTable/basAccessEntry rows keyed by basAccessChassis, basAccessSlot, and basAccessLPort to confirm which basAccessCommName (community string) and basAccessIpAddress are authorized to manage a specific line card, and checks basAccessStatus to see whether that access entry is active. Finding an unexpected or stale basAccessProfile entry on a card would indicate a misconfigured or leftover management-access rule that needs to be revoked.
What Can Be Monitored
- per-slot/port SNMP community and IP access entries
- access profile assignment
- access entry status
- chassis/slot/interface addressing for management access
