What Is AVAYA-FABRIC-ATTACH-MIB?

AVAYA-FABRIC-ATTACH-MIB supports Avaya's Fabric Attach feature, which automates IEEE 802.1Q VLAN and I-SID service provisioning for edge devices connecting into an Avaya fabric (SPBM) network. It exposes configuration data such as service type, primary server identity/description, and per-interface I-SID-to-VLAN assignment tables, along with global statistics and notification objects. For monitoring purposes it lets an admin confirm that fabric-attach negotiation is functioning correctly on each edge port -- watching avFabricAttachIsidVlanAsgnsState and avFabricAttachIsidVlanAsgnsRowStatus reveals whether an automatic VLAN/I-SID assignment on a given interface is active, provisioned, or has failed, while avFabricAttachGlobalStats and the notifications group surface broader fabric-attach protocol health and errors. It depends on the underlying Avaya SPBM/fabric infrastructure and standard ifIndex interface identification for associating assignments with physical ports. It is deployed on Avaya (Extreme Networks) fabric-connected switches at the network edge where auto-provisioning of VLANs is used to simplify device onboarding. Engineers can download the AVAYA-FABRIC-ATTACH-MIB file directly to load it into their MIB browser.

Monitoring Examples

An admin would walk avFabricAttachIsidVlanAsgnsTable/avFabricAttachIsidVlanAsgnsEntry, keyed by avFabricAttachIsidVlanAsgnsIfIndex, to see the avFabricAttachIsidVlanAsgnsIsid and avFabricAttachIsidVlanAsgnsVlan pairing negotiated on each edge port, checking avFabricAttachIsidVlanAsgnsState to confirm the assignment is active rather than stuck in a pending or failed state. avFabricAttachPrimaryServerId and avFabricAttachPrimaryServerDescr identify which fabric-attach server the switch is currently using, useful for detecting an unexpected server failover. A rise in avFabricAttachGlobalStats error counters combined with avFabricAttachNotifications traps would indicate provisioning problems for newly attached endpoints.

How to Use in IPNetwork Monitor

Example using avFabricAttachGlobalStatsDiscElemReceived OID:

Select an Avaya (Extreme Networks) fabric-connected switch as the target host to create a monitor — the SNMP service should be up and running on it. Click New Monitor, then check SNMP Custom on the Favorites tab, click Next, and confirm the host. On the next page, click Select... to open the built-in SNMP MIB Browser and type avFabricAttachGlobalStatsDiscElemReceived into the Find box to locate it in the OID tree, then select it and click OK. Indicates the number of discovery elements received. On the monitor's Main parameters page you can set the target's SNMP port (default 161), credentials, polling interval, and other settings — see the SNMP Monitor help for details. On the State conditions and Alerting tabs, configure when the monitor should change state and trigger an alert; since this is a Counter32-type OID, Value bounds is the most useful condition here — trigger an alert if the counter increases sharply between polls relative to its normal baseline, since an unexpected spike often reflects a real change in traffic or activity. Click Finish to create the monitor; you can adjust any parameter later.
