What Is ATEN-SMI?
ATEN-SMI is the Structure of Management Information root module for ATEN International, establishing the top-level enterprise OID hierarchy (aten, atenProducts, atenExperiment) under which all of ATEN's product-specific MIBs register. As a pure SMI/root module it defines no monitored data objects itself; instead it is the organizational anchor that other ATEN MIBs (covering KVM switches, PDUs, console servers, etc.) build upon. Because of that, its monitoring relevance is indirect — the real hardware/software status data (power state, port status, session activity) lives in the child product MIBs registered beneath this root, not here. It has an inherent dependency relationship with every other ATEN product MIB, which import this root for their OID assignments. It is used wherever ATEN equipment (KVM, PDU, console server product lines) is deployed, functioning purely as the naming foundation for those devices' management objects. Engineers can download the ATEN-SMI file directly to load it into their MIB browser.

Monitoring Examples
This module defines only the aten, atenProducts, otherEnterprises, and atenExperiment OID nodes with no pollable leaves; a management tool would use these OIDs purely as the tree anchor while the actual monitored parameters (e.g., port or power status) are found in the specific product MIB (such as ATEN-SN0116A-SMI) registered underneath atenProducts.
