Description: Arista EOS VRF instance configuration, route distinguisher, and interface assignment management.
Start monitoring vendor-neutral, standards-based MIB, any SNMPv3-capable network device (SNMP engine identity/boot/clock status) with a free 30-day trial of IPNetwork Monitor. Import MIBs, browse SNMP OIDs, create custom SNMP monitors, configure alerts, and monitor any SNMP-enabled network device from a single console.
What Is ARISTA-VRF-MIB?
ARISTA-VRF-MIB is an Arista Networks proprietary MIB for the EOS operating system that manages Virtual Routing and Forwarding (VRF) instances on Arista switches and routers. It exposes configuration data such as VRF names, route distinguishers, and the mapping of Layer 3 interfaces to VRF instances, letting a management station see how a device's routing table space is partitioned. While primarily a configuration/inventory MIB rather than a hardware-health MIB, it is useful for monitoring the operational status of each VRF and confirming which interfaces are correctly bound to which routing domain, which is critical for detecting misconfiguration in multi-tenant or segmented networks. It has an implicit dependency on the standard IF-MIB for interface indexing since VRF membership is tied to ifIndex values. This MIB is typically deployed in Arista EOS-based data center and service-provider environments running multi-tenant or overlapping-IP-address network designs. Network engineers evaluating or troubleshooting this functionality can download the ARISTA-VRF-MIB file directly to load it into their MIB browser.
IPNetwork Monitor allows you to monitor SNMP objects defined in ARISTA-VRF-MIB. Use the built-in SNMP Monitoring Browser to explore available variables, view their current values and descriptions, and select the objects you want to monitor. You can then create SNMP monitors, configure thresholds, and receive alerts when monitored values change.
Supported Devices
- Arista EOS switches and routers
Monitoring Examples
An operator would poll aristaVrfTable/aristaVrfEntry to enumerate configured VRFs and read aristaVrfName and aristaVrfRouteDistinguisher to confirm the expected set of routing instances exists, then check aristaVrfRoutingStatus or aristaVrfState to verify each VRF is operationally up. Cross-referencing aristaVrfIfTable/aristaVrfIfEntry and aristaVrfIfMembership lets an admin confirm a given interface is bound to the correct VRF, revealing misrouted traffic if an interface unexpectedly shows membership in the wrong VRF or a VRF shows a down state.
What Can Be Monitored
- VRF operational/routing status
- VRF route distinguisher assignment
- interface-to-VRF membership
- list of configured VRF instances
