Description: ANS CO+RE network alarm and fault notification management for high-speed services.

Start monitoring vendor-neutral, standards-based MIB, any SNMPv3-capable network device (SNMP engine identity/boot/clock status) with a free 30-day trial of IPNetwork Monitor. Import MIBs, browse SNMP OIDs, create custom SNMP monitors, configure alerts, and monitor any SNMP-enabled network device from a single console.

What Is ANS-ALARM-MIB?

ANS-ALARM-MIB is a network alarm and event management MIB from ANS CO+RE Systems (a legacy high-speed data-services/ISP infrastructure provider), designed to report and log fault/event conditions from network equipment for centralized alarm correlation. It exposes an event table recording each event's name, community, treatment (how it should be handled/escalated), last-sent time, and owner, plus controls for log administration and sizing, and a discrimination flag for filtering which network events actually generate alarms. Its monitoring value is entirely in fault/status visibility: eventTable/eventEntry effectively functions as an alarm history log, letting an operator see which fault conditions have fired repeatedly (via eventLastTimeSent) and whether alarm generation is being filtered by discriminateNtEvents, which would explain "missing" alarms. It does not show an explicit dependency on other standard MIBs, appearing to be a self-contained enterprise alarm-log design. It is typically deployed within ANS CO+RE's own network operations infrastructure for centralized fault and alarm log management across their high-speed service network, and administrators can download the ANS-ALARM-MIB file to integrate it into their alarm-management tools.

IPNetwork Monitor allows you to monitor SNMP objects defined in ANS-ALARM-MIB. Use the built-in SNMP Monitoring Browser to explore available variables, view their current values and descriptions, and select the objects you want to monitor. You can then create SNMP monitors, configure thresholds, and receive alerts when monitored values change.

Supported Devices

  • ANS CO+RE network infrastructure equipment

Monitoring Examples

An operator would poll eventTable/eventEntry by eventIndex to review eventName, eventTreatment, and eventLastTimeSent for recurring fault conditions, and check discriminateNtEvents to confirm certain event classes aren't being suppressed from alarm generation. logSize approaching capacity while logAdminStatus remains enabled would indicate the alarm log needs to be rotated or expanded before new events start overwriting old ones.

What Can Be Monitored

  • event/alarm log entries
  • event treatment/escalation setting
  • last alarm time per event
  • alarm log size and admin status
  • event discrimination/filtering status
