Category: VPN and Security, Vendor: Altiga
Description: Altiga (Cisco VPN 3000) DHCP client statistics MIB for monitoring DHCP relay and client address acquisition events.
Start monitoring vendor-neutral, standards-based MIB, any SNMPv3-capable network device (SNMP engine identity/boot/clock status) with a free 30-day trial of IPNetwork Monitor. Import MIBs, browse SNMP OIDs, create custom SNMP monitors, configure alerts, and monitor any SNMP-enabled network device from a single console.
What Is ALTIGA-DHCP-STATS-MIB?
ALTIGA-DHCP-STATS-MIB comes from Altiga Networks, whose remote-access VPN gateway was acquired by Cisco and became the Cisco VPN 3000 Concentrator; it tracks DHCP client/relay statistics used when the concentrator hands out addresses to VPN clients. It exposes performance-counter data: active vs. maximum lease counts and detailed counts of DHCP discover/offer/request/ack/nak messages at each stage (init, T1 renewal, T2 rebinding). Its monitoring value is operational/software health of the address-assignment process - a lease pool nearing exhaustion or a rising rate of NAK responses signals that new or renewing VPN clients may be unable to obtain an address. It is a standalone Altiga-proprietary MIB rather than a reuse of the IETF DHCP-related MIBs. It is deployed on Cisco VPN 3000 Concentrators (or original Altiga gateways) providing DHCP-assigned addressing for remote-access VPN clients. Engineers can download the ALTIGA-DHCP-STATS-MIB file directly to load it into their MIB browser.
IPNetwork Monitor allows you to monitor SNMP objects defined in ALTIGA-DHCP-STATS-MIB. Use the built-in SNMP Monitoring Browser to explore available variables, view their current values and descriptions, and select the objects you want to monitor. You can then create SNMP monitors, configure thresholds, and receive alerts when monitored values change.
Supported Devices
- Cisco VPN 3000 Series Concentrator (formerly Altiga Networks)
Monitoring Examples
Comparing alDhcpStatsActiveLeases against alDhcpStatsMaximumLeases shows how close the DHCP pool is to exhaustion, which would block new VPN client connections once reached. alDhcpStatsDiscoversSent versus alDhcpStatsOffersRcvd shows whether offers are keeping pace with discovers, while a rising alDhcpStatsInitNaksRcvd or alDhcpStatsT1NaksRcvd count indicates clients are being rejected during initial address acquisition or renewal.
What Can Be Monitored
- active vs. maximum DHCP leases
- DHCP discover/offer message counts
- init/T1/T2 request-ack-nak counters
- DHCP address renewal failure rate
