This counter tracks how many point-to-point internal channel identifier requests failed on the ATM interface. Network engineers monitor this to detect if the ATM core is having trouble allocating channels for point-to-point connections, which would indicate hardware or fabric congestion. If this counter shows a value of 542 and keeps increasing, it means the ATM board is repeatedly failing to set up point-to-point connections.
