** Description clause from MIB-II text ** The subnet mask associated with the IP address of this entry. The value of the mask is an IP address with all the network bits set to 1 and all the hosts bits set to 0.
What is ipAddressSubnetMask?
This OID stores the subnet mask that defines which IP addresses are on the same local network as the device. Engineers configure this to ensure the device can properly route traffic to peers on the same subnet and identify when traffic must go through a gateway. For example, a value of '255.255.255.0' means the device shares a network with any IP address from 10.1.2.0 to 10.1.2.255.
