All MIBs › A3COM0021-PORT-SECURITY
Category: Security
Description: Manages port security settings on 3Com switches including MAC address filtering and lockdown.
Start monitoring vendor-neutral, standards-based MIB, any SNMPv3-capable network device (SNMP engine identity/boot/clock status) with a free 30-day trial of IPNetwork Monitor. Import MIBs, browse SNMP OIDs, create custom SNMP monitors, configure alerts, and monitor any SNMP-enabled network device from a single console.
What Is A3COM0021-PORT-SECURITY?
A3COM0021-PORT-SECURITY is a private 3Com MIB for configuring and monitoring port security on 3Com switches, a Layer 2 feature that restricts which MAC addresses may communicate through a switch port. It exposes per-port security mode, intrusion-action policy, maximum allowed address count, and a table of the actual learned/secured MAC addresses per port. Its monitoring value is software/security-status oriented: an operator checks whether a port has reached its maximum secured-address limit or has triggered its configured intrusion action (such as shutting the port down or discarding frames) in response to an unauthorized MAC address appearing. It has no explicit external MIB dependency beyond the vendor's own bridge/port model, though it is conceptually related to the standards-based IEEE 802.1X port-access-control framework. It is deployed on 3Com access-layer switches in environments where physical port access must be restricted to known devices. Engineers can download the A3COM0021-PORT-SECURITY file directly to load it into their MIB browser.
IPNetwork Monitor allows you to monitor SNMP objects defined in A3COM0021-PORT-SECURITY. Use the built-in SNMP Monitoring Browser to explore available variables, view their current values and descriptions, and select the objects you want to monitor. You can then create SNMP monitors, configure thresholds, and receive alerts when monitored values change.
Supported Devices
- 3Com Layer 2 access switches
Monitoring Examples
An operator walks securePortTable/securePortEntry (indexed by secureSlotIndex and securePortIndex) to compare secureNumberAddressesStored against secureMaximumAddresses, revealing a port that has hit its secured-address cap and is now rejecting new devices. Checking secureIntrusionAction alongside secureAddressTable/secureAddressEntry shows whether an unauthorized MAC address triggered a shutdown or logging action on a given port, and secureNeedToKnowMode confirms whether the port is restricted to only explicitly configured addresses.
What Can Be Monitored
- secured MAC address count per port
- maximum allowed addresses per port
- intrusion action triggered
- port security mode
- learned secure address list
