Category: MPLS and Traffic Engineering, Vendor: H3C/HH3C

Description: Extends MPLS OAM management with protection switching capabilities on H3C/3Com devices, enabling monitored failover between primary and backup LSPs.

Start monitoring vendor-neutral, standards-based MIB, any SNMPv3-capable network device (SNMP engine identity/boot/clock status) with a free 30-day trial of IPNetwork Monitor. Import MIBs, browse SNMP OIDs, create custom SNMP monitors, configure alerts, and monitor any SNMP-enabled network device from a single console.

What Is A3COM-HUAWEI-MPLSOAM-PS-MIB?

A3COM-HUAWEI-MPLSOAM-PS-MIB is a joint H3C/3Com (post-merger Huawei-3Com) enterprise MIB extending MPLS OAM management with protection-switching (PS) capability for MPLS LSPs on their routing platforms. It exposes configuration and status data for protection groups pairing a working LSP with a backup LSP, including revertive-mode settings, wait-to-restore (WTR) and hold-off timers, and the detected working-LSP failure condition and switch trigger. This directly supports monitoring the software-level fault/failover status of MPLS traffic-protection groups, letting an admin see whether a group has switched to its protection LSP and why, functioning as a fault/traps MIB for MPLS resiliency rather than raw hardware health. It builds on and depends on the underlying MPLS-related MIBs (e.g. MPLS-LSR/TE MIBs) for LSP identity, and defines its own scalar trap-enable object and notifications for switchover events. It is deployed on H3C/3Com/Huawei MPLS-capable routers and switches that use 1:1 LSP protection switching for carrier-grade resiliency, with the A3COM-HUAWEI-MPLSOAM-PS-MIB MIB providing the SNMP interface into that protection-switching state.

IPNetwork Monitor allows you to monitor SNMP objects defined in A3COM-HUAWEI-MPLSOAM-PS-MIB. Use the built-in SNMP Monitoring Browser to explore available variables, view their current values and descriptions, and select the objects you want to monitor. You can then create SNMP monitors, configure thresholds, and receive alerts when monitored values change.

Supported Devices

  • H3C/3Com/Huawei MPLS-capable routers and switches

Monitoring Examples

An admin would poll h3cMplsPsTable/h3cMplsPsEntry indexed by h3cMplsPsIndex to check h3cMplsPsWorkLspName and h3cMplsPsProtectLspName status, along with h3cMplsPsWorkLspDetectState and h3cMplsPsSwitchCondition. If h3cMplsPsWorkLspDetectState shows a fault on the working LSP and h3cMplsOamPsTrapOpen notifications fire, that reveals an automatic failover to the protect LSP within the h3cMplsPsGroupID group, with h3cMplsPsWTR/h3cMplsPsHoldOff governing how quickly it reverts back.

What Can Be Monitored

  • working LSP name
  • protect LSP name
  • protection group revertive mode
  • wait-to-restore timer
