Description: Monitors and configures ARP packet rate-limiting thresholds and drop counters on H3C devices.

Start monitoring vendor-neutral, standards-based MIB, any SNMPv3-capable network device (SNMP engine identity/boot/clock status) with a free 30-day trial of IPNetwork Monitor. Import MIBs, browse SNMP OIDs, create custom SNMP monitors, configure alerts, and monitor any SNMP-enabled network device from a single console.

What Is A3COM-HUAWEI-ARP-RATELIMIT-MIB?

A3COM-HUAWEI-ARP-RATELIMIT-MIB is an H3C enterprise MIB covering the ARP packet rate-limiting feature, which throttles the rate of ARP packets punted to a device's CPU to protect it from ARP-flood attacks. In its current implementation it supports only the monitoring side of that feature, exposing trap-related counters and messages rather than live configuration knobs. Its monitoring role centers on CPU protection and fault/security signaling: it reports how many rate-limit trap events have occurred and carries descriptive trap messages, functioning as an early-warning indicator of ARP-based attacks or storms threatening CPU health. The MIB is a small, self-contained notification module without heavy cross-MIB dependencies. It is deployed on H3C switches and routers as part of CPU-protection/control-plane-policing subsystems, and network teams typically start with an A3COM-HUAWEI-ARP-RATELIMIT-MIB download to load the module before configuring trap thresholds in their NMS.

IPNetwork Monitor allows you to monitor SNMP objects defined in A3COM-HUAWEI-ARP-RATELIMIT-MIB. Use the built-in SNMP Monitoring Browser to explore available variables, view their current values and descriptions, and select the objects you want to monitor. You can then create SNMP monitors, configure thresholds, and receive alerts when monitored values change.

Supported Devices

  • H3C switches and routers

Monitoring Examples

An admin would monitor h3cARPRatelimitTrapCount to track how many times the ARP rate-limit threshold has been exceeded, and inspect h3cARPRatelimitTrapMsg for a human-readable description of each event. A rapidly increasing trap count combined with recurring h3cARPRatelimitTrap notifications would indicate an ongoing ARP flood or misbehaving host that is pressuring the device's control-plane CPU. h3cARPRatelimitTrapVer identifies the version of the trap format being emitted, useful for parsing compatibility.

What Can Be Monitored

  • ARP rate-limit trap count
  • ARP rate-limit trap messages
  • ARP rate-limit trap version
  • CPU-directed ARP packet rate events
