What Is ZXR10-VRRP-EXT-MIB?

This MIB is a ZTE ZXR10 extension supplementing the standard VRRP-MIB (RFC 2787) and covers Virtual Router Redundancy Protocol operation, which allows a group of routers to present a shared virtual IP as a highly available default gateway. It exposes extended operational objects per VRRP instance, including priority, preemption mode and delay, advertisement interval, protocol version, and interface-tracking policy used to adjust priority based on link state. This MIB is used to monitor the software/protocol health of gateway redundancy: confirming which router currently holds the master role, whether priority and preemption settings are as expected, and whether tracked interfaces are influencing failover behavior, all of which are critical to detecting an unexpected or delayed failover. As its name indicates, it explicitly depends on and extends the standard VRRP-MIB (RFC 2787), so full VRRP state is only visible when both MIBs are polled together. It is typically deployed in enterprise and data-center edge routers configured in VRRP pairs or groups to provide gateway redundancy. Engineers can download the ZXR10-VRRP-EXT-MIB file directly to load it into their MIB browser.

Monitoring Examples

An operator would poll zxr10VrrpExtOperTable / zxr10VrrpExtOperEntry, keyed by zxr10VrrpOperIfIndex and zxr10VrrpOperVrId, to check zxr10VrrpOperCfgPriority, zxr10VrrpOperPreemptMode, and zxr10VrrpOperPreemptDelay for a given virtual router. If zxr10VrrpOperPreemptMode is unexpectedly disabled after a primary router recovers from a failure, the backup router may continue acting as master longer than intended, delaying restoration of the preferred path. Monitoring zxr10VrrpTrackInterPolicy alongside interface status also reveals whether a tracked interface failure is correctly lowering priority and triggering the expected failover.

How to Use in IPNetwork Monitor

Example using vrrpTrackInterState OID:

Select a ZTE ZXR10 router as the target host to create a monitor — the SNMP service should be up and running on it. Click New Monitor, then check SNMP Custom on the Favorites tab, click Next, and confirm the host. On the next page, click Select... to open the built-in SNMP MIB Browser and type vrrpTrackInterState into the Find box to locate it in the OID tree, selecting the specific row/instance you want to monitor since this is a table column, then select it and click OK. The current state of the tracked interface. This object has two defined values: - `up', which indicates the protocol status of the tracked interface. - `down', which indicates the protocol status of the tracked interface. On the monitor's Main parameters page you can set the target's SNMP port (default 161), credentials, polling interval, and other settings — see the SNMP Monitor help for details. On the State conditions and Alerting tabs, configure when the monitor should change state and trigger an alert; since this is an INTEGER-type OID, Value bounds is the most useful condition here — trigger an alert if the value is anything other than 'up', since that indicates the condition this object reports has changed to one worth investigating. Click Finish to create the monitor; you can adjust any parameter later.
