What Is XYLAN-FW1-MIB?
XYLAN-FW1-MIB is a Xylan (later Alcatel OmniSwitch) enterprise MIB for managing the firewall module option installed in OmniSwitch chassis. It exposes configuration data for firewall policy rules and active session/connection tracking on the module. Its monitoring value centers on the software/service status of the firewall module, letting administrators confirm the module is up and correctly enforcing its configured security policy, and watch session-table state for signs of exhaustion or unexpected connection patterns. It is a module-specific extension layered on top of Xylan's base OmniSwitch chassis and hardware MIBs rather than any IETF standard. It is deployed in enterprise networks using OmniSwitch chassis fitted with the FW1 firewall module for integrated switch-based security enforcement. Engineers can download the XYLAN-FW1-MIB file directly to load it into their MIB browser.
IPNetwork Monitor allows you to monitor SNMP objects defined in XYLAN-FW1-MIB. Use the built-in SNMP Monitoring Browser to explore available variables, view their current values and descriptions, and select the objects you want to monitor. You can then create SNMP monitors, configure thresholds, and receive alerts when monitored values change.
What Can Be Monitored
- firewall policy rule configuration
- active session/connection counts
- firewall module operational status
Supported Devices
- Xylan/Alcatel OmniSwitch chassis with FW1 firewall module
Monitoring Examples
An operator would poll the module's security-rule table to confirm the expected rule set is loaded and active, then check the session-tracking table to see current connection/session counts. A session count approaching the module's documented maximum would indicate the firewall module is near capacity and at risk of dropping new connections. Because no sample objects were captured, exact table and object names cannot be confirmed, but the short description indicates the MIB centers on policy rule configuration and session tracking.
