Description: Monitors IBM XIV enterprise storage system disk utilization, volume status, and I/O performance metrics.

Start monitoring vendor-neutral, standards-based MIB, any SNMPv3-capable network device (SNMP engine identity/boot/clock status) with a free 30-day trial of IPNetwork Monitor. Import MIBs, browse SNMP OIDs, create custom SNMP monitors, configure alerts, and monitor any SNMP-enabled network device from a single console.

What Is XIV-MIB?

XIV-MIB is an IBM vendor MIB describing management objects for the IBM XIV Storage System, a grid-based enterprise disk array, exposed over SNMP. It covers categories such as disk/module and volume status, storage pool utilization, and I/O performance metrics for the array. Its central purpose is monitoring the hardware and operational status of the storage system - flagging failed or degraded disk modules, tracking volume online/offline state, and surfacing I/O performance data that reveals a bottlenecked storage pool - functioning much like a health/performance dashboard for the array. No specific dependency on other MIBs is indicated beyond the standard SNMP framework the agent runs on. It is deployed wherever IBM XIV storage arrays are integrated into SNMP-based data-center/SAN monitoring alongside other storage and network management tools, with XIV-MIB SNMP monitoring forming a core piece of the array's health-and-performance dashboard.

IPNetwork Monitor allows you to monitor SNMP objects defined in XIV-MIB. Use the built-in SNMP Monitoring Browser to explore available variables, view their current values and descriptions, and select the objects you want to monitor. You can then create SNMP monitors, configure thresholds, and receive alerts when monitored values change.

Supported Devices

  • IBM XIV enterprise storage system (grid-based disk array)

Monitoring Examples

No object/table names were supplied for this module in the source data; in general an administrator would poll disk-module and volume status objects for failed or offline conditions and check I/O performance counters (throughput/latency) to identify a degraded storage pool before it impacts applications.

What Can Be Monitored

  • disk/module status
  • volume/storage pool status
  • storage capacity/utilization
  • I/O performance metrics
