xsysDnsDomain

Module: XEDIA-SYSTEM-MIB

OID (symbolic): XEDIA-SYSTEM-MIB::xsysDnsDomain

OID (numeric): 1.3.6.1.4.1.838.3.1.1.10.1

Node type: OBJECT-TYPE

Type: DisplayString

Access: read-write

Description: The domain name suffix used when fully qualified domain names are not specified.

When no domain suffix is specified, you must use fully qualified domain names. When a domain suffix is specified you may use the host or node name portion of the domain name when referring to domain names within the domain sub-tree (suffix) specified by this object.

For example, setting this object to `xedia.com' allows you to refer to the node `barbados.xedia.com' as `barbados'.

For those familiar with the UNIX operating system, this object is equivalent to the `domain' keyword in the /etc/resolv.conf file. For example, setting this object to `xedia.com' has the same affect as specifying `domain xedia.com' in your /etc/resolv.conf file.

Values of this object must adhere to the rules for domain names specified in RFC 1034 and RFC 1035.

What is xsysDnsDomain?

The default DNS domain suffix appended to unqualified hostnames; e.g. setting it to 'xedia.com' lets you refer to 'barbados.xedia.com' as just 'barbados', equivalent to the 'domain' line in a Unix /etc/resolv.conf.
