wfFakeEventString

Module: Wellfleet-FAKE-EVENT-MIB

OID (symbolic): Wellfleet-FAKE-EVENT-MIB::wfFakeEventString

OID (numeric): 1.3.6.1.4.1.18.3.5.3.5.4.1

Node type: OBJECT-TYPE

Type: DisplayString

Access: read-only

Description: A dummy display string. While no string will actually be kept here, the full identifier (object id + attribute id + instance ID ) will be used to wrap event strings passed from the system logger into an SNMP Trap message.

What is wfFakeEventString?

This object is a placeholder that never actually holds a stored value; instead, its full object identifier, combined with an instance ID, is used as a wrapper mechanism to carry arbitrary event text from the device's internal system logger into an SNMP trap message. A developer or network management tool relies on this mechanism to receive syslog-style event text through the SNMP trap channel rather than a separate syslog feed. For example, a system log entry about a card reset gets wrapped through wfFakeEventString's identifier structure and delivered as the text payload of the resulting SNMP trap.

Examples

Walk all instances (SNMPv2c):

snmpwalk -v2c -c public <target> 1.3.6.1.4.1.18.3.5.3.5.4.1
snmpwalk -v2c -c public <target> Wellfleet-FAKE-EVENT-MIB::wfFakeEventString

Get a specific instance (index 1):

snmpget -v2c -c public <target> 1.3.6.1.4.1.18.3.5.3.5.4.1.1
snmpget -v2c -c public <target> Wellfleet-FAKE-EVENT-MIB::wfFakeEventString.1
