Description: Monitors Wowza Media Systems Streaming Engine server connection counts, stream throughput, and application status.

Start monitoring vendor-neutral, standards-based MIB, any SNMPv3-capable network device (SNMP engine identity/boot/clock status) with a free 30-day trial of IPNetwork Monitor. Import MIBs, browse SNMP OIDs, create custom SNMP monitors, configure alerts, and monitor any SNMP-enabled network device from a single console.

What Is WOWZA-STREAMING-ENGINE-MIB?

WOWZA-STREAMING-ENGINE-MIB is a vendor-specific MIB from Wowza Media Systems for their Streaming Engine server software, used to monitor live and on-demand media streaming servers. It exposes a hierarchy of server, virtual host, application, application-instance, stream, and client index tables along with per-server counters, reflecting the software's internal structure for organizing streaming workloads. Its monitoring value is squarely on software/service status: tracking how many streams and clients are active per application instance, when the server counters were last reset (creation time), and general server-group health, which lets an operator detect an overloaded streaming application, a stream that stopped delivering, or an unexpected drop in connected clients. As an application-specific MIB for a media server, it has no dependency on networking-hardware MIBs beyond the standard host/system MIBs typically present alongside it. It is deployed on servers running the Wowza Streaming Engine software in media delivery, CDN, or live-broadcast infrastructure. Engineers can download the WOWZA-STREAMING-ENGINE-MIB file directly to load it into their MIB browser.

IPNetwork Monitor allows you to monitor SNMP objects defined in WOWZA-STREAMING-ENGINE-MIB. Use the built-in SNMP Monitoring Browser to explore available variables, view their current values and descriptions, and select the objects you want to monitor. You can then create SNMP monitors, configure thresholds, and receive alerts when monitored values change.

Supported Devices

  • server running Wowza Streaming Engine software

Monitoring Examples

An administrator would traverse serverGroupTable/serverGroupEntry down through vhostIndex, applicationIndex, applicationInstanceIndex, and streamIndex to count active streams and clientIndex entries per application instance, watching for a sudden drop in client count that would indicate a stream outage or encoder failure. serverCounterTable's serverCounterCreationTime would be checked to confirm counters haven't unexpectedly reset (indicating a service restart), which would explain a sudden dip in cumulative statistics.

What Can Be Monitored

  • active streams per application instance
  • connected client counts
  • server/virtual-host/application hierarchy status
  • server counter reset/creation time
