Description: Manages WatchGuard IPsec VPN tunnel parameters, security associations, encryption settings, and throughput statistics.

Start monitoring vendor-neutral, standards-based MIB, any SNMPv3-capable network device (SNMP engine identity/boot/clock status) with a free 30-day trial of IPNetwork Monitor. Import MIBs, browse SNMP OIDs, create custom SNMP monitors, configure alerts, and monitor any SNMP-enabled network device from a single console.

What Is WATCHGUARD-IPSEC-TUNNEL-MIB?

WATCHGUARD-IPSEC-TUNNEL-MIB is a WatchGuard Technologies vendor-specific MIB that models active IPsec tunnels on WatchGuard security appliances, defining a single wgIpsecTunnelTable indexed by wgIpsecTunnelID with a wide SEQUENCE covering tunnel endpoints (wgIpsecTunnelLocalAddr, wgIpsecTunnelPeerAddr), security association parameters (wgIpsecTunnelInSpi, wgIpsecTunnelOutSpi, wgIpsecTunnelEspEncryptAlg, wgIpsecTunnelEspAuthAlg, wgIpsecTunnelMode, wgIpsecTunnelKeyMode), and traffic/error counters (wgIpsecTunnelInKbytes, wgIpsecTunnelOutKbytes, wgIpsecTunnelInDecryptErrors, wgIpsecTunnelInAuthErrors, wgIpsecTunnelInReplayErrors). It also captures traffic-selector detail (wgIpsecTunnelSelectorRemoteIPOne/Two, wgIpsecTunnelSelectorLocalIPType) and UDP-encapsulation state (wgIpsecTunnelUdpEncap, wgIpsecTunnelPeerUdpPort) for NAT-traversed tunnels, useful for spotting decryption/authentication/replay failures, rekey frequency anomalies, or tunnels that have silently dropped selector traffic. It is deployed on WatchGuard Firebox/XTM security appliances and depends on the base WATCHGUARD-MIB for its enterprise registration point; security teams can download the WATCHGUARD-IPSEC-TUNNEL-MIB file to load it into their MIB browser to monitor VPN tunnel health.

IPNetwork Monitor allows you to monitor SNMP objects defined in WATCHGUARD-IPSEC-TUNNEL-MIB. Use the built-in SNMP Monitoring Browser to explore available variables, view their current values and descriptions, and select the objects you want to monitor. You can then create SNMP monitors, configure thresholds, and receive alerts when monitored values change.

Supported Devices

  • WatchGuard Firebox and XTM security appliances

Monitoring Examples

An operator polls wgIpsecTunnelTable (indexed by wgIpsecTunnelID) to check wgIpsecTunnelInDecryptErrors and wgIpsecTunnelInAuthErrors against wgIpsecTunnelInPackets for a given peer; a rising error count alongside stagnant wgIpsecTunnelAccSecs would indicate the tunnel's security association has desynchronized, likely due to a key mismatch between the two gateways.

What Can Be Monitored

  • active IPsec tunnel count and per-tunnel identity
  • encryption/authentication algorithm in use
  • inbound/outbound traffic byte and packet counters
  • decrypt/authentication/replay error counters
  • rekey count and UDP-encapsulation/NAT-traversal state
