vmConfigFile

Module: VMWARE-TRAPS-MIB

OID (symbolic): VMWARE-TRAPS-MIB::vmConfigFile

OID (numeric): 1.3.6.1.4.1.6876.50.102

Node type: OBJECT-TYPE

Type: DisplayString

Access: read-only

Description: This is the config file of the affected vm generating the trap.

What is vmConfigFile?

This object carries the configuration file path of the virtual machine that generated a VMware trap such as vmPoweredOn or vmHBLost. An admin monitoring VM power and heartbeat events uses it to pinpoint exactly which VM's .vmx configuration file is associated with the alert, especially when multiple VMs share similar display names. For example, a vmHBLost trap might carry a vmConfigFile value like '/vmfs/volumes/datastore1/webserver01/webserver01.vmx', identifying the affected VM precisely.
