hpSwitchTrafficGroupLossless

Module: TRAFFIC-TEMPLATE-MIB

OID (symbolic): TRAFFIC-TEMPLATE-MIB::hpSwitchTrafficGroupLossless

OID (numeric): 1.3.6.1.4.1.11.2.14.11.5.1.72.1.2.2.1.5

Node type: OBJECT-TYPE

Type: TruthValue

Access: read-write

Description: A flag indicating that this queue is to be configured for lossless behavior when Priority Flow Control (PFC) is enabled on a port. Designating a queue as lossless causes ingress thresholds to be set that will trigger PFC frames when this queue exceeds or falls below a specific threshold. The queue will also respond to PFC frames received from a neighbor.

This flag may not be set if any queue in the template is configured for a 'medium' or 'low' discard threshold (see hpSwitchTrafficGroupEgressDiscardThreshold).

This flag is not supported on all devices.

What is hpSwitchTrafficGroupLossless?

This read-write boolean flags this traffic group's queue for lossless behavior under Priority Flow Control (PFC), causing ingress thresholds to be set that trigger PFC frames on crossing, and making the queue respond to PFC frames from a neighbor; it cannot be set if any queue in the template uses a 'medium' or 'low' discard threshold, and the source DESCRIPTION notes it is not supported on all devices. An admin enables it for traffic classes, such as storage traffic, that cannot tolerate packet loss, ensuring the switch uses flow control rather than dropping packets when that queue nears capacity. For example, an admin running FCoE over Ethernet would mark the storage traffic group as lossless so PFC pauses that specific priority instead of allowing storage frames to be dropped under congestion.
