Description: The Egress Buffer Discard Threshold setting for this traffic group. This setting controls the maximum size of the group egress queue. When set to 'medium' or 'low', the maximum number of buffers permitted in the queue is reduced so packets are dropped sooner and their buffers made available for higher priority traffic. However, this also reduces the maximum traffic burst that can be absorbed without dropping packets. The default is 'high'.

This setting may not be changed if any queue in the template is configured for lossless behavior (see hpSwitchTrafficGroupLossless).

This setting is not supported on all devices.

What is hpSwitchTrafficGroupEgressDiscardThreshold?

This read-write value sets the Egress Buffer Discard Threshold for this traffic group among low(1), medium(2), and high(3, the default), controlling the maximum buffer size for the group's egress queue; it cannot be changed if any queue in the template is marked lossless, and the source DESCRIPTION notes it is not supported on all devices. An admin lowers this threshold to drop lower-priority traffic sooner and free buffers for higher-priority traffic, at the cost of absorbing smaller traffic bursts before packets are dropped. For example, an admin wanting to protect buffer headroom for higher-priority queues might set a best-effort traffic group's threshold to low(1), accepting that bursty best-effort traffic will drop sooner under congestion.
