What Is TPT-PORT-CONFIG-MIB?
TPT-PORT-CONFIG-MIB is a Trend Micro TippingPoint proprietary MIB for the TippingPoint Intrusion Prevention System (IPS) family of network security appliances. It exposes configuration data for the physical network ports on the device, organized as a table indexed by slot and port. The primary use is monitoring and managing hardware port state: link speed, duplex mode, auto-negotiation, administrative shutdown status, loopback mode, and failover/bypass behavior (LDS mode and timeout), all of which reflect the operational health of the inline security appliance's network interfaces. Security teams often load the TPT-PORT-CONFIG-MIB MIB into their management console specifically to audit failover/bypass settings across all inline IPS ports. It does not appear to depend heavily on other standard MIBs, being a self-contained vendor configuration module. It is typically deployed by security operations teams managing TippingPoint IPS appliances inline in a network path, where port-level misconfiguration or failover state directly affects traffic flow.
IPNetwork Monitor allows you to monitor SNMP objects defined in TPT-PORT-CONFIG-MIB. Use the built-in SNMP Monitoring Browser to explore available variables, view their current values and descriptions, and select the objects you want to monitor. You can then create SNMP monitors, configure thresholds, and receive alerts when monitored values change.
What Can Be Monitored
- port line speed
- duplex mode
- auto-negotiation status
- administrative shutdown state
- loopback mode
- failover/bypass (LDS) mode and timeout
Supported Devices
- Trend Micro TippingPoint IPS appliance product line, entire range (per-port link/failover-bypass config status)
Monitoring Examples
An administrator would poll portConfigTable/portConfigEntry, indexed by portConfigSlot and portConfigPort, to check portConfigLineSpeed and portConfigDuplex for mismatches that could cause packet loss on an inline IPS segment. Monitoring portConfigShutdown would reveal if a port was administratively disabled, and portConfigFailover combined with portConfigLDSMode/portConfigLDSTimeout would show whether the appliance's link-down synchronization (bypass) feature has been triggered, indicating the IPS has failed open.
