Description: Defines rules mapping traffic protocols to VLAN assignments for protocol-based VLANs on TP-Link switches.
Start monitoring vendor-neutral, standards-based MIB, any SNMPv3-capable network device (SNMP engine identity/boot/clock status) with a free 30-day trial of IPNetwork Monitor. Import MIBs, browse SNMP OIDs, create custom SNMP monitors, configure alerts, and monitor any SNMP-enabled network device from a single console.
What Is TPLINK-PROTOCOL-VLAN-MIB?
TPLINK-PROTOCOL-VLAN-MIB is a TP-Link enterprise MIB that configures protocol-based VLAN classification on TP-Link managed switches, letting untagged and priority-tagged frames be assigned to a VLAN based on the protocol they carry rather than port or tag membership alone. It exposes configuration data through a protocol group table that maps defined protocol templates to VLAN IDs, plus notification objects for related events. Its monitoring role is primarily configuration/software-status oriented: administrators check the protocol group table to confirm traffic of a given protocol is being classified into the intended VLAN, and watch its notifications for changes to that classification. It builds on the standard IEEE 802.1Q VLAN model, adding protocol-based classification as an alternative to port-based or tag-based VLAN assignment. It is typically deployed in mixed-protocol LAN environments where legacy or specialized traffic must be segregated onto dedicated VLANs without relying on manual port assignment. Engineers can download the TPLINK-PROTOCOL-VLAN-MIB file directly to load it into their MIB browser.
IPNetwork Monitor allows you to monitor SNMP objects defined in TPLINK-PROTOCOL-VLAN-MIB. Use the built-in SNMP Monitoring Browser to explore available variables, view their current values and descriptions, and select the objects you want to monitor. You can then create SNMP monitors, configure thresholds, and receive alerts when monitored values change.
Supported Devices
- TP-Link managed switch
Monitoring Examples
An administrator would poll protocolGroupTable (under tplinkProtocolVlanMIBObjects) to confirm which VLAN ID a configured protocol template maps to, verifying that frames matching a given EtherType are being tagged and forwarded on the expected VLAN. If traffic that should be isolated is instead appearing on the default VLAN, the table entry would reveal a missing or misconfigured protocol-to-VLAN mapping. The tplinkProtocolVlanNotifications group would alert the administrator when such a mapping is changed.
What Can Be Monitored
- protocol-to-VLAN group mappings
- protocol template definitions
- VLAN ID assignment per protocol
- protocol VLAN configuration change notifications
