This value reports whether the NAT router has detected the connection as currently active(1) or inactive(2). It lets an admin distinguish live, traffic-carrying flows from stale entries that are just waiting to age out and be removed. For example, active(1) would show for a session with recent packets, switching to inactive(2) once the flow goes idle.
