Category: WAN and Serial Interfaces

Description: Manages TDLC interface option settings including data link configuration and protocol state.

Start monitoring vendor-neutral, standards-based MIB, any SNMPv3-capable network device (SNMP engine identity/boot/clock status) with a free 30-day trial of IPNetwork Monitor. Import MIBs, browse SNMP OIDs, create custom SNMP monitors, configure alerts, and monitor any SNMP-enabled network device from a single console.

What Is TDLC-OPT-MIB?

TDLC-OPT-MIB is a legacy vendor MIB (associated with the Cisco/StrataCom CDX 6500 channel-extension platform) that manages Trunk Data Link Control (TDLC) protocol options on serial/channel interfaces. It exposes configuration-oriented objects that group and set the operating protocol for physical trunk (PST) and physical channel (PCT) ports on the device. Because it centers on per-port protocol-group assignment, it is used to monitor and confirm the operational protocol state of each channel/trunk port rather than expose broad hardware health telemetry, though protocol mismatches surfacing here can indicate link or configuration faults. It has no explicit dependency on other MIBs beyond the standard SNMPv1/v2 SMI conventions typical of mid-1990s vendor MIBs. As a TDLC-OPT-MIB reference, it would typically be deployed on legacy IBM mainframe channel-extension or trunk-multiplexing equipment integrated into a WAN.

IPNetwork Monitor allows you to monitor SNMP objects defined in TDLC-OPT-MIB. Use the built-in SNMP Monitoring Browser to explore available variables, view their current values and descriptions, and select the objects you want to monitor. You can then create SNMP monitors, configure thresholds, and receive alerts when monitored values change.

Supported Devices

  • Codex (Motorola Codex) 6500-series multiplexer/data communications chassis

Monitoring Examples

An operator would poll cdx6500PCTPortProtocolGroup and cdx6500PSTPortProtocolGroup to confirm which protocol group each Physical Channel Trunk (PCT) and Physical Serial Trunk (PST) port on a CDX 6500 is currently assigned to. A mismatch between the expected and reported protocol group value would reveal a misconfigured trunk that could prevent the channel-extension link from establishing. Since only two grouping objects are visible in this module, monitoring here is limited to confirming per-port protocol assignment rather than full traffic statistics.

What Can Be Monitored

  • PCT port protocol group assignment
  • PST port protocol group assignment
  • trunk protocol configuration state
