Category: Switch Management - General

Description: Provides switch system identity, firmware version, hardware revision, and operational status.

Start monitoring vendor-neutral, standards-based MIB, any SNMPv3-capable network device (SNMP engine identity/boot/clock status) with a free 30-day trial of IPNetwork Monitor. Import MIBs, browse SNMP OIDs, create custom SNMP monitors, configure alerts, and monitor any SNMP-enabled network device from a single console.

What Is SWITCH-INFO-MIB?

SWITCH-INFO-MIB is a generic switch identity module that exposes basic vendor and product information for a managed switch, including vendor name, product name, model name/ID, and copyright/version details. It is primarily an inventory/identification MIB rather than one covering deep performance or environmental data. Its relevance to hardware/software status monitoring is limited to confirming device identity and firmware/model information, which is useful for asset inventory and for correlating alerts from other MIBs to the correct hardware model. It does not appear to have notable dependencies on other MIBs, functioning as a self-describing identity block. It is deployed across a range of managed switches (often white-label/ODM products) that expose this identity block alongside their main management MIBs, and consulting a SWITCH-INFO-MIB reference helps engineers map these identity objects to the correct vendor documentation.

IPNetwork Monitor allows you to monitor SNMP objects defined in SWITCH-INFO-MIB. Use the built-in SNMP Monitoring Browser to explore available variables, view their current values and descriptions, and select the objects you want to monitor. You can then create SNMP monitors, configure thresholds, and receive alerts when monitored values change.

Supported Devices

  • managed network switch (vendor identity/inventory module)

Monitoring Examples

An admin polls vendorName, vendorProductName, and vendorModelName to programmatically identify the switch model behind an SNMP endpoint, using vendorModelId to distinguish between hardware revisions of an otherwise identically named product. This is typically used during inventory discovery to route a device to the correct vendor-specific monitoring template rather than to detect a fault condition directly.

What Can Be Monitored

  • product name
  • model name/ID
  • copyright/version info
