Description: Manages CableLabs eDOCSIS SLED device configuration, software download, and operational status for embedded DOCSIS.

Start monitoring vendor-neutral, standards-based MIB, any SNMPv3-capable network device (SNMP engine identity/boot/clock status) with a free 30-day trial of IPNetwork Monitor. Import MIBs, browse SNMP OIDs, create custom SNMP monitors, configure alerts, and monitor any SNMP-enabled network device from a single console.

What Is SLED-MIB?

SLED-MIB is a CableLabs specification MIB, part of the DOCSIS/eDOCSIS family, that manages the Software Loopback Application for embedded DOCSIS (SLED) functionality found in cable-modem-embedded devices such as eMTAs and set-top gateways. It exposes configuration objects to enable the loopback application globally and per interface, define loopback packet header parameters, and configure a packet generator with payload, rate, packet count, and trigger settings. Administrators use it to monitor and control an embedded diagnostic test tool -- checking whether loopback and packet-generation are enabled, what rate and count a test run was configured with, and when it was last triggered (sledPktGenLastTrigger) -- which is useful for verifying that a cable operator's remote diagnostic/test capability on the device is functioning. It is defined as part of the CableLabs eDOCSIS specification family and depends on that broader DOCSIS device architecture for context. It is typically deployed on eDOCSIS-embedded devices in cable broadband access networks for remote diagnostic testing. Engineers can download the SLED-MIB file directly to load it into their MIB browser.

IPNetwork Monitor allows you to monitor SNMP objects defined in SLED-MIB. Use the built-in SNMP Monitoring Browser to explore available variables, view their current values and descriptions, and select the objects you want to monitor. You can then create SNMP monitors, configure thresholds, and receive alerts when monitored values change.

Supported Devices

  • eDOCSIS-embedded cable device (e.g., cable modem/eMTA with embedded application)

Monitoring Examples

An operator troubleshooting a suspected line issue would set sledLoopbackEnable and sledPktGenTrigger to initiate a test, then poll sledPktGenRate and sledPktGenNumPkts to confirm the generator ran with the intended parameters, and check sledPktGenLastTrigger to verify when the last test executed. If sledGlobalEnable is off, none of the per-interface settings under sledLoopbackInterface and sledPktGenInterface will take effect, explaining why a requested diagnostic test produced no results. Reviewing sledPktGenPayload and sledLoopbackPktHdr helps confirm the exact test packet content used during the diagnostic run.

What Can Be Monitored

  • loopback feature enable status
  • packet generator rate and packet count
  • last diagnostic trigger time
  • loopback interface configuration
