slPmL2Count

Module: SL-PM-MIB

OID (symbolic): SL-PM-MIB::slPmL2Count

OID (numeric): 1.3.6.1.4.1.4515.1.3.25.2.1.1.4

Node type: OBJECT-TYPE

Type: Counter64

Access: read-only

Description: The counter associated with the number of Coding Violations encountered in a particular 15-minute interval in the past 24 hours.

What is slPmL2Count?

This read-only 64-bit counter reports the Layer 2 performance count for the counter type selected by this row's slPmL2CounterType index, tallied over one completed 15-minute (or daily) interval. An admin trends this per-counter-type value to watch for rising Layer 2 error or event rates on the interface, structured much like the physical-layer PM interval table but scoped to Layer 2 statistics. A steadily climbing count for a given interval number on an interface points to an emerging Layer 2 problem worth cross-checking against slPmL2ValidData before trusting the trend.

snmpget -v2c -c public <target> SL-PM-MIB::slPmL2Count.1

Start monitoring Smartoptics optical transport equipment (PM-interval error/threshold-crossing statistics) with a free 30-day trial of IPNetwork Monitor. Create custom SNMP monitor using the SL-PM-MIB::slPmL2Count OID value, configure state conditions and alerts, and monitor any Smartoptics optical transport equipment (PM-interval error/threshold-crossing statistics) from a single console.

How to Use in IPNetwork Monitor

Select a Smartoptics optical transport equipment (PM-interval error/threshold-crossing statistics) as the target host to create a monitor — the SNMP service should be up and running on it. Click New Monitor, then check SNMP Custom on the Favorites tab, click Next, and confirm the host. On the next page, click Select... to open the built-in SNMP MIB Browser and type slPmL2Count into the Find box to locate it in the OID tree, selecting the specific row/instance you want to monitor since this is a table column, then select it and click OK. The counter associated with the number of Coding Violations encountered in a particular 15-minute interval in the past 24 hours. On the monitor's Main parameters page you can set the target's SNMP port (default 161), credentials, polling interval, and other settings — see the SNMP Monitor help for details. On the State conditions and Alerting tabs, configure when the monitor should change state and trigger an alert; since this is a Counter64-type OID, Value bounds is the most useful condition here — trigger an alert if the counter increases between polls, since a rising count of errors, failures, or discards often points to a real underlying problem. Click Finish to create the monitor; you can adjust any parameter later.
