heCommonLogNumberOfEntries

Module: SCTE-HMS-HE-COMMON-MIB

OID (symbolic): SCTE-HMS-HE-COMMON-MIB::heCommonLogNumberOfEntries

OID (numeric): 1.3.6.1.4.1.5591.1.11.2.1.1.1.2.1

Node type: OBJECT-TYPE

Type: Integer32

Access: read-only

Description: The current number of entries in the heCommonLogTable. Before the very first wrap-around condition occurs for heCommonLogIndex, heCommonLogNumberOfEntries will return the total number of entries logged in heCommonLogTable, since the unit was powered up. After the first wrap-around condition has occured for for the value of the MIB variable heCommonLogIndex, heCommonLogNumberOfEntries will return the maximum number of rows the heCommonLogTable can hold.

What is heCommonLogNumberOfEntries?

This read-only value reports the current number of entries in heCommonLogTable, counting total entries logged since power-up until the log index first wraps around, after which it reports the table's maximum row capacity. An admin reads it to gauge how much alarm-log history is currently available, and to recognize when the log has filled and begun overwriting older entries. For example, an admin seeing this value plateau at a fixed number across multiple checks would know the log table has reached its capacity and is now cycling through the wrap-around behavior described for heCommonLogIndex.

How to Use in IPNetwork Monitor

Select a device implementing SCTE-HMS-HE-COMMON-MIB as the target host to create a monitor — the SNMP service should be up and running on it. Click New Monitor, then check SNMP Custom on the Favorites tab, click Next, and confirm the host. On the next page, click Select... to open the built-in SNMP MIB Browser and type heCommonLogNumberOfEntries into the Find box to locate it in the OID tree, then select it and click OK. The current number of entries in the heCommonLogTable. On the monitor's Main parameters page you can set the target's SNMP port (default 161), credentials, polling interval, and other settings — see the SNMP Monitor help for details. On the State conditions and Alerting tabs, configure when the monitor should change state and trigger an alert; since this is an Integer32-type OID, Value bounds is the most useful condition here — trigger an alert if the count changes from its expected baseline, since that would indicate the underlying set of items changed unexpectedly. Click Finish to create the monitor; you can adjust any parameter later.
