What is etherStatsMulticastPkts?

This counter tracks the total number of valid multicast Ethernet packets received on a network segment, excluding broadcast traffic. It indicates how much multicast traffic is flowing through the monitored network—used to understand IPTV, conference calls, or multicast application usage. An operator investigating video streaming would check if this counter is climbing rapidly to confirm multicast delivery is active.
