This counter reports how many times the carrier sense condition was lost or never asserted while the interface attempted to transmit a frame, incremented at most once per transmission attempt. An admin uses it to detect physical-layer problems affecting an interface's ability to reliably sense the medium before transmitting. For example, a steadily climbing count could indicate a faulty cable, connector, or transceiver on that Ethernet segment.
