Module: REPEATER-MIB
OID (symbolic): REPEATER-MIB::rptrFrameSzGiant
OID (numeric): 1.3.6.1.4.1.52.4.1.1.1.4.1.2.3.7
Node type: OBJECT-TYPE
Type: Counter
Access: read-only
Description: Get this repeater's total received packets of size greater than 1518 bytes.
What is rptrFrameSzGiant?
This read-only Counter32 counts received frames on this repeater (network segment) that fell in the over 1518 bytes (giants) size bucket, one of seven size buckets (from runts under 64 bytes up to giants over 1518 bytes) this MIB tracks for frame-size distribution. Admins watch the distribution across all seven buckets to spot abnormal traffic patterns, since well-formed Ethernet frames are supposed to fall between 64 and 1518 bytes. A climbing rptrFrameSzGiant means this repeater (network segment) is seeing frames over 1518 bytes, unusual on standard Ethernet and worth investigating, for example a misconfigured jumbo-frame device.
