Module: RBN-PING-MIB

OID (symbolic): RBN-PING-MIB::rbnPingHistoryIpTargetAddress

OID (numeric): 1.3.6.1.4.1.2352.2.46.1.2.2.1.3

Node type: OBJECT-TYPE

Type: InetAddress

Access: read-only

Description: This object reports the IP address associated with a pingCtlTargetAddress value when the destination address is specified as a DNS name. The value of this object should be a zero-length octet string when a DNS name is not specified or when a specified DNS name fails to resolve.

The address type (InetAddressType) that relates to this object is specified by the corresponding value of pingResultsIpTargetAddressType.

What is rbnPingHistoryIpTargetAddress?

This reports the resolved IP address for a ping test whose target was originally specified as a DNS name, and is a zero-length string if no DNS name was used or if resolution failed. Admins use this to confirm exactly which IP a DNS-based ping target resolved to at test time, useful when troubleshooting DNS-related connectivity issues. Seeing a zero-length value here after configuring a DNS-based target tells the admin that name resolution failed for that test.
