Description: Manages BATM Advanced Communication VRRP virtual router configuration, priority, and active/backup gateway election state.
Start monitoring vendor-neutral, standards-based MIB, any SNMPv3-capable network device (SNMP engine identity/boot/clock status) with a free 30-day trial of IPNetwork Monitor. Import MIBs, browse SNMP OIDs, create custom SNMP monitors, configure alerts, and monitor any SNMP-enabled network device from a single console.
What Is PRVT-VRRP-MIB?
This is a private VRRP (Virtual Router Redundancy Protocol) MIB used by BATM Advanced Communications networking equipment, modeling virtual router instances that provide gateway redundancy across a LAN segment. It exposes configuration and operational-state data for each virtual router: its priority, preemption behavior, VRRP version, advertisement interval, accept mode, and bound interface. Its monitoring value is centered on software/protocol-state health: confirming which router in a redundancy group currently holds the master/active role via priority and preempt settings, and detecting misconfiguration (e.g., mismatched advertisement intervals) that could cause split-brain or flapping between master and backup. It implements the standard IETF VRRP protocol (RFC 3768/5798) concepts within a vendor-private OID tree rather than using the standard VRRP-MIB directly. It's typically deployed in enterprise/carrier edge networks requiring default-gateway high availability on BATM equipment. Engineers can download the PRVT-VRRP-MIB file directly to load it into their MIB browser.
IPNetwork Monitor allows you to monitor SNMP objects defined in PRVT-VRRP-MIB. Use the built-in SNMP Monitoring Browser to explore available variables, view their current values and descriptions, and select the objects you want to monitor. You can then create SNMP monitors, configure thresholds, and receive alerts when monitored values change.
Supported Devices
- BATM Advanced Communications router/switch
Monitoring Examples
An admin would poll prvtVrrpVirtualRouterTable, indexed by prvtVrrpVirtualRouterId and prvtVrrpVirtualRouterInterface, to check prvtVrrpVirtualRouterPriority and prvtVrrpVirtualRouterPreempt to confirm the intended router holds the higher priority and will reclaim master status. prvtVrrpVirtualRouterAdvertisedInterval lets the operator verify all group members share the same timer, since a mismatch causes unstable failover. prvtVrrpVirtualRouterTraceUplinkThreshold and prvtVrrpVirtualRouterShutdown reveal whether uplink tracking has forced the router into a shutdown/backup state, which would explain an unexpected gateway failover event.
What Can Be Monitored
- VRRP virtual router priority
- preempt mode
- advertisement interval
- accept mode
- uplink tracking threshold
- shutdown/admin state
