Description: This parameter defines the duration, in seconds, of the Restart timer, which is started when a Configure-Request or Terminate-Request packet is transmitted. If the timer expires a timeout occurs, followed by retransmission of the packet.

Configure the Configuration Restart Timer parameter based on the speed of the link. The default value, 3 seconds, is designed for low-speed lines (from 2400 to 9600 bps) and links having a high switching latency, such as telephone lines. For higher speed links or links with low switching latency the retransmission time is reduced, so the Retry Period should be reduced also. For example, round trip transmission times for modems at 14,400 bps are in the range of 160 to 600 milliseconds. A value of 1 second for the Configuration Restart Timer would be appropriate.
