pimRPMappingChange

Module: PIM-STD-MIB

OID (symbolic): PIM-STD-MIB::pimRPMappingChange

OID (numeric): 1.3.6.1.2.1.157.0.4

Node type: NOTIFICATION-TYPE

Description:

A pimRPMappingChange notification signifies a change to the active RP mapping on this device.

This notification is generated whenever the counter pimRPMappingChangeCount is incremented, subject to the rate limit specified by pimRPMappingChangeNotificationPeriod.

What is pimRPMappingChange?

This notification is sent whenever the active Rendezvous Point (RP) mapping for multicast routing changes on the device, subject to a rate-limiting threshold to prevent notification flooding. RP mapping determines which router acts as the meeting point for multicast sources and receivers, so changes indicate topology shifts or policy updates. Multicast network operators monitor this alert to track RP failovers and validate multicast tree stability.

Examples

Send this trap to an SNMP manager — replace <manager> with the IP or hostname of your monitoring server (SNMPv2c):

snmptrap -v2c -c public <manager> '' PIM-STD-MIB::pimRPMappingChange
snmptrap -v2c -c public <manager> '' 1.3.6.1.2.1.157.0.4

Listen for incoming traps on the manager host (-f keeps it in the foreground, -Lo prints to stdout — useful for testing):

snmptrapd -f -Lo -c /dev/null authCommunity log public
