pethPsePortPowerDetectionStatus

Module: PETH-MIB

OID (symbolic): PETH-MIB::pethPsePortPowerDetectionStatus

OID (numeric): 1.3.6.1.2.1.10.7.20.1.1.1.6

Node type: OBJECT-TYPE

Type: INTEGER

Access: read-write

Description: Controls the power detection mechanism of the port. Setting the value auto(1) enables the power detection mechanism of the port. Setting the value off(2) disables the power detection mechanism of the port. Setting the value test(3) puts the port in a test mode forcing continuous discovery without applying power regardless of whether PD detected.

What is pethPsePortPowerDetectionStatus?

This value controls the port's PoE detection mode: auto(1) enables normal powered-device detection, off(2) disables detection entirely, and test(3) forces continuous discovery cycling without ever applying power, regardless of whether a device is detected. An admin uses test(3) mode to safely probe what devices are present on a port without risking powering up unexpected equipment. Setting pethPsePortPowerDetectionStatus to off(2) on a data-only port prevents the switch from wasting detection cycles on it.
