Description: Reports network interface card traffic counters and error statistics on Procera Networks PacketLogic appliances.

Start monitoring vendor-neutral, standards-based MIB, any SNMPv3-capable network device (SNMP engine identity/boot/clock status) with a free 30-day trial of IPNetwork Monitor. Import MIBs, browse SNMP OIDs, create custom SNMP monitors, configure alerts, and monitor any SNMP-enabled network device from a single console.

What Is PACKETLOGIC-NIC-MIB?

PACKETLOGIC-NIC-MIB is a Procera Networks (later Sandvine) vendor MIB for the network interface card (NIC) modules installed in PacketLogic2 deep-packet-inspection (DPI) traffic-management appliances. It exposes hardware inventory and status data organized by physical slot and logical channel, including slot labels, part numbers, operational state, bypass mode, and the network interface(s) each slot serves. This makes it central to hardware health monitoring of the appliance -- confirming each NIC slot is operating normally, detecting when a card has dropped into hardware bypass (traffic no longer inspected), and verifying physical inventory after a card swap. It has no explicit dependency on standard IETF MIBs, working as a self-contained enterprise MIB alongside the companion PACKETLOGIC-OVERVIEW-MIB. It is deployed on Procera/Sandvine PacketLogic DPI/traffic-shaping appliances sitting inline in ISP or enterprise links, with administrators typically starting from a PACKETLOGIC-NIC-MIB download to load the module into their SNMP management tools.

IPNetwork Monitor allows you to monitor SNMP objects defined in PACKETLOGIC-NIC-MIB. Use the built-in SNMP Monitoring Browser to explore available variables, view their current values and descriptions, and select the objects you want to monitor. You can then create SNMP monitors, configure thresholds, and receive alerts when monitored values change.

Supported Devices

  • Procera Networks PacketLogic DPI appliance
  • Sandvine PacketLogic traffic management appliance

Monitoring Examples

An admin would walk slotEntry (indexed by slotEntryIndex) reading slotState and slotBypass for each slot, alerting if slotBypass flips true, meaning the card has failed into hardware bypass and stopped shaping/inspecting traffic. The channelEntry table (indexed by channelEntryIndex) reports per-channel data beneath each slot, such as which slotInterface a channel maps to, useful for correlating link alarms to a physical port. slotLabel and slotPartNo help confirm which card model occupies a slot after maintenance.

What Can Be Monitored

  • NIC slot operational state
  • hardware bypass status
  • slot part number/inventory
  • channel-to-interface mapping
  • channel count per slot
