Description: Reports hardware sensor readings including temperature and voltage on Procera Networks PacketLogic appliances.
Start monitoring vendor-neutral, standards-based MIB, any SNMPv3-capable network device (SNMP engine identity/boot/clock status) with a free 30-day trial of IPNetwork Monitor. Import MIBs, browse SNMP OIDs, create custom SNMP monitors, configure alerts, and monitor any SNMP-enabled network device from a single console.
What Is PACKETLOGIC-HW-SENSORS-MIB?
PACKETLOGIC-HW-SENSORS-MIB is a vendor-specific SNMP module for Procera Networks PacketLogic DPI appliances that exposes baseboard management controller (BMC) hardware sensor data for the physical chassis. It defines temperature sensor and fan sensor tables reporting sensor identity, readings, units, and status for each monitored component. This MIB is squarely a hardware health monitoring module — its explicit purpose is tracking temperature readings and fan speed/status to detect overheating, fan failure, or other environmental faults on the appliance before they cause instability or downtime. It complements PACKETLOGIC-CHANNEL-MIB, which covers traffic/software behavior, giving a complete picture of the device when both are polled together, and follows standard entity/sensor MIB conventions common to appliance hardware monitoring. It is deployed on PacketLogic appliances in network operations centers where environmental health alerting is needed for rack-mounted DPI hardware. Engineers can download the PACKETLOGIC-HW-SENSORS-MIB file directly to load it into their MIB browser.
IPNetwork Monitor allows you to monitor SNMP objects defined in PACKETLOGIC-HW-SENSORS-MIB. Use the built-in SNMP Monitoring Browser to explore available variables, view their current values and descriptions, and select the objects you want to monitor. You can then create SNMP monitors, configure thresholds, and receive alerts when monitored values change.
Supported Devices
- Procera Networks PacketLogic DPI appliance
Monitoring Examples
An administrator polls tempSensorEntry (keyed by tempSensorEntryIndex) for tempSensorReading and tempSensorStatus to detect a chassis running hotter than normal, and checks fanSensorEntry for fanSensorSpeed to confirm cooling fans are spinning at expected RPM. A tempSensorStatus transitioning to a non-normal state alongside a low fanSensorSpeed reading would indicate fan failure causing thermal buildup, warranting immediate hardware intervention. Tracking tempSensorReading over time across multiple tempSensorId entries helps establish a baseline for detecting gradual airflow degradation from dust buildup.
What Can Be Monitored
- chassis temperature readings
- temperature sensor status
- fan speed
- fan sensor status
- per-sensor identity/unit
