Category: Nortel MsCarrier MscPassport

Description: Defines SNMP objects for Packet-over-Ring ATM trunk interfaces on Nortel MsCarrier MscPassport switches.

Start monitoring vendor-neutral, standards-based MIB, any SNMPv3-capable network device (SNMP engine identity/boot/clock status) with a free 30-day trial of IPNetwork Monitor. Import MIBs, browse SNMP OIDs, create custom SNMP monitors, configure alerts, and monitor any SNMP-enabled network device from a single console.

What Is Nortel-MsCarrier-MscPassport-PorsAtmTrunksMIB?

This proprietary Nortel MIB, part of the MsCarrier MscPassport suite for the Passport WAN switching platform, models Packet-over-Ring (PORS) ATM trunk interfaces used to carry ATM traffic over ring-based transport. It exposes provisioning tables describing trunk mode, ATM connection association, storage type, and row status for each PORS ATM trunk instance. The MIB is used mainly to monitor the software/configuration status of trunk interfaces -- whether a trunk row is active, its provisioned ATM connection binding, and its operating mode -- functioning as a configuration health check rather than exposing raw physical-layer counters. Like other MscPassport modules it relies on the shared Passport component/row-status naming convention for consistent cross-module management. It is deployed only on legacy Nortel/Alcatel Passport switches carrying ATM trunks over ring transport in carrier and enterprise WAN backbones. Engineers can download the Nortel-MsCarrier-MscPassport-PorsAtmTrunksMIB file directly to load it into their MIB browser.

IPNetwork Monitor allows you to monitor SNMP objects defined in Nortel-MsCarrier-MscPassport-PorsAtmTrunksMIB. Use the built-in SNMP Monitoring Browser to explore available variables, view their current values and descriptions, and select the objects you want to monitor. You can then create SNMP monitors, configure thresholds, and receive alerts when monitored values change.

Supported Devices

  • Nortel/Alcatel-Lucent Passport ATM switch
  • MscPassport carrier switching platform

Monitoring Examples

A network engineer would query mscTrkPaAtmProvTable to read mscTrkPaAtmAtmConnection and mscTrkPaAtmMode for a given mscTrkPaAtmIndex to verify a PORS ATM trunk is correctly bound to its ATM connection and operating in the expected mode. Checking mscTrkPaAtmRowStatusTable's mscTrkPaAtmRowStatus reveals whether the trunk component is active or has failed provisioning. A trunk row remaining in a non-active state after creation indicates a misconfigured or down ring trunk requiring intervention.

What Can Be Monitored

  • PORS ATM trunk row status
  • trunk-to-ATM-connection binding
  • trunk operating mode
  • component provisioning/storage type
