What Is NORTEL-MIB?

NORTEL-MIB is Nortel Networks' top-level enterprise MIB, defining only the root OID and top-level registration subtrees under which all other legacy Nortel/Northern Telecom product MIBs are organized. It contains no runtime data objects of its own, serving purely as a namespace root. It therefore contributes nothing directly to monitoring hardware or software status; that functionality lives in the many companion product-specific Nortel MIBs registered beneath this tree. It has no dependency beyond the standard SNMPv2-SMI enterprise numbering convention. Deployment context spans the full range of legacy Nortel/Northern Telecom networking, telephony, and carrier equipment historically managed via SNMP. Because it defines only the enterprise root, a NORTEL-MIB download by itself provides no usable monitoring data until paired with the specific product MIB modules registered beneath it.

IPNetwork Monitor allows you to monitor SNMP objects defined in NORTEL-MIB. Use the built-in SNMP Monitoring Browser to explore available variables, view their current values and descriptions, and select the objects you want to monitor. You can then create SNMP monitors, configure thresholds, and receive alerts when monitored values change.

Supported Devices

  • Nortel/Northern Telecom networking or telephony equipment (registration root, not tied to one product)

Monitoring Examples

This is a pure enterprise-root registration module with an empty sample_objects list; it defines only OID branch assignments and has no pollable objects of its own, so there is honestly no monitoring scenario to describe for this module itself.
