Category: Applications

Description: Provides SNMP objects for managing Lotus Notes or Domino server availability and session statistics.

Start monitoring vendor-neutral, standards-based MIB, any SNMPv3-capable network device (SNMP engine identity/boot/clock status) with a free 30-day trial of IPNetwork Monitor. Import MIBs, browse SNMP OIDs, create custom SNMP monitors, configure alerts, and monitor any SNMP-enabled network device from a single console.

What Is NOTES-MIB?

NOTES-MIB is an enterprise MIB (branch lotus/notes/notesPump) for monitoring IBM/Lotus Notes and Domino mail server infrastructure. It exposes objects covering mail routing and delivery statistics, statistics collection metadata, and general server statistics indexing, giving visibility into the software-service health of a Domino mail transfer agent rather than physical hardware. Key monitoring uses include tracking dead mail, delivered mail counts, total mail failures, and transferred/routed mail volumes to gauge whether the mail server's queueing and transfer processes are functioning correctly, alongside a proxy agent version object useful for software version tracking. It also exposes statistics start/current time objects that let a poller gauge how long a counting interval has been running. This is a vendor-specific MIB tied to Lotus/Domino messaging software rather than a hardware device, deployed wherever a Domino mail/routing server needs to be monitored by an enterprise NMS. Engineers can download the NOTES-MIB file directly to load it into their MIB browser.

IPNetwork Monitor allows you to monitor SNMP objects defined in NOTES-MIB. Use the built-in SNMP Monitoring Browser to explore available variables, view their current values and descriptions, and select the objects you want to monitor. You can then create SNMP monitors, configure thresholds, and receive alerts when monitored values change.

Supported Devices

  • Lotus Notes/Domino mail server

Monitoring Examples

An administrator would poll lnDeadMail and lnTotalMailFailures to detect a mail routing problem, since a rising dead-mail count usually indicates misaddressed messages or a downstream routing failure. Comparing lnDeliveredMail against lnTotalRoutedMail and lnTransferredMail over the interval bounded by lnStatsStartTime and lnStatsCurrentTime reveals whether the server is keeping pace with inbound mail volume or falling behind. Walking lnAllStatsTable/lnAllStatsEntry with lnStatisticIndex and lnStatisticString exposes the full set of named Domino statistics counters for deeper diagnostics. lnMainProxyAgentVersion lets an admin confirm the agent software version deployed on the server.
