Description: The counter associated with the number of Path Errored Seconds encountered by a E3 interface in the current 15 minute interval. This counts the seconds containing one or more BIP errors, one or more LOF defects, one or more LOS defects, or a detected incoming AIS. This counter is valid when an interface is configured for Direct cell mapping. When an interface is configured for PLCP cell mapping, the counter returns the last valid count when the port is in the Direct mode.

What is nncExtE3Current15MinESs?

This gauge counts Path Errored Seconds on an E3 interface during the current, still-in-progress 15-minute interval, incrementing for each second containing a BIP error, an LOF or LOS defect, or a detected incoming AIS. It is valid when the interface is in Direct cell mapping mode; in PLCP mode it just holds the last valid count from when the port was last in Direct mode. An admin watching a live E3 circuit would poll this gauge to see error activity accumulating in real time before the interval rolls over.

Create custom SNMP monitor using the NNCEXTE3-MIB::nncExtE3Current15MinESs OID value, configure state conditions and alerts, and monitor any Newbridge Networks E3 transmission equipment from a single console.

How to Use in IPNetwork Monitor

Select a Newbridge Networks E3 transmission equipment as the target host to create a monitor — the SNMP service should be up and running on it. Click New Monitor, then check SNMP Custom on the Favorites tab, click Next, and confirm the host. On the next page, click Select... to open the built-in SNMP MIB Browser and type nncExtE3Current15MinESs into the Find box to locate it in the OID tree, selecting the specific row/instance you want to monitor since this is a table column, then select it and click OK. The counter associated with the number of Path Errored Seconds encountered by a E3 interface in the current 15 minute interval. On the monitor's Main parameters page you can set the target's SNMP port (default 161), credentials, polling interval, and other settings — see the SNMP Monitor help for details. On the State conditions and Alerting tabs, configure when the monitor should change state and trigger an alert; since this is a Gauge32-type OID, Value bounds is the most useful condition here — trigger an alert if the counter increases between polls, since a rising count of errors, failures, or discards often points to a real underlying problem. Click Finish to create the monitor; you can adjust any parameter later.
