stpOptfLoopGuard

Module: NMS-STP

OID (symbolic): NMS-STP::stpOptfLoopGuard

OID (numeric): 1.3.6.1.4.1.11606.10.9.253.6

Node type: OBJECT-TYPE

Type: INTEGER

Access: read-write

Description: Loop guard prevents alternate and root ports from becoming designated ports.

In SSTP and PVST modes, if a Loop guard-enabled port is designated port, it is always blocked.

In RSTP and MSTP modes, if a Loop guard-enabled port becomes designated port because of a failure that can't receive BPDUs, it is blocked.

What is stpOptfLoopGuard?

This object is a read-write boolean controlling Loop Guard, which prevents alternate and root ports from erroneously transitioning into designated ports: in SSTP/PVST a Loop Guard-enabled designated port is always blocked, and in RSTP/MSTP a Loop Guard-enabled port that becomes designated because it stopped receiving BPDUs is blocked. Administrators enable it to guard against Layer 2 loops caused by a unidirectional link failure that stops BPDUs from arriving. For example, enabling stpOptfLoopGuard on redundant fiber uplinks prevents a bridging loop if one strand of a fiber pair fails silently.
