stpOptfBpduGuard

Module: NMS-STP

OID (symbolic): NMS-STP::stpOptfBpduGuard

OID (numeric): 1.3.6.1.4.1.11606.10.9.253.2

Node type: OBJECT-TYPE

Type: INTEGER

Access: read-write

Description: BPDU guard can operate in all spanning tree modes, but the feature operates with some differences. In SSTP and PVST modes, if a Port Fast-enabled port receives a BPDU,it will be shutdown. In RSTP and MSTP modes, if a port receives a BPDU, it will be blocked for double forward time. In all spanning tree modes, a BPDU guard-enabled port will not send BPDUs.

What is stpOptfBpduGuard?

This object is a read-write boolean controlling BPDU Guard, a spanning-tree feature that reacts to a Port Fast-enabled port receiving a BPDU: in SSTP/PVST it shuts the port down, in RSTP/MSTP it blocks the port for double the forward delay, and in all modes a guarded port itself never sends BPDUs. Administrators enable it to protect the network from accidental or rogue switches being plugged into access ports, which could otherwise disrupt the spanning-tree topology. For example, enabling stpOptfBpduGuard on a lab's guest-access ports causes the switch to shut down a port if someone connects an unauthorized switch there.
