stpOptfBackboneFast

Module: NMS-STP

OID (symbolic): NMS-STP::stpOptfBackboneFast

OID (numeric): 1.3.6.1.4.1.11606.10.9.253.5

Node type: OBJECT-TYPE

Type: INTEGER

Access: read-write

Description: BackboneFast detects indirect failures in the core of the backbone. When a switch receives an inferior BPDU from the designated port of another switch, the BPDU is a signal that the other switch might have lost its path to the root, and BackboneFast tries to find an alternate path to the root.

What is stpOptfBackboneFast?

This object is a read-write boolean controlling BackboneFast, which detects indirect link failures in the backbone by recognizing when a switch receives an inferior BPDU from another switch's designated port, and then actively searches for an alternate path to the root. Administrators enable it in core/backbone topologies to speed convergence for failures that aren't directly attached to the local switch. For example, enabling stpOptfBackboneFast lets a distribution switch detect that a peer switch lost its path to the root and re-converge faster than waiting out the max-age timer.
