What Is NEWOAK-MIB?
NEWOAK-MIB is a Nortel MIB (NewOak was a Nortel product line associated with VPN routing) whose sole purpose is to define the sysObjectID values used to identify different hardware/software variants of the Nortel VPN Router product family. As a pure identity/registration module it carries no interface, environmental, or performance data objects of its own. Its use in hardware/software status monitoring is indirect: a management system reads the sysObjectID it defines to determine exactly which VPN Router model/variant an SNMP agent represents, which then determines which other product MIBs to use for actual health polling (uptime, CPU, memory, tunnel status, etc.). It depends only on the standard SNMPv2-SMI enterprises registration tree for OID allocation, and loading NEWOAK-MIB into a NEWOAK-MIB MIB Browser mainly serves to resolve those sysObjectID values into human-readable model names rather than to poll any live data. It is deployed wherever Nortel VPN Router appliances are managed, serving purely as a model-identification lookup rather than a monitoring data source.
IPNetwork Monitor allows you to monitor SNMP objects defined in NEWOAK-MIB. Use the built-in SNMP Monitoring Browser to explore available variables, view their current values and descriptions, and select the objects you want to monitor. You can then create SNMP monitors, configure thresholds, and receive alerts when monitored values change.
Supported Devices
- Nortel VPN Router appliances
Monitoring Examples
sample_objects is empty for this MIB, consistent with it being solely a sysObjectID definition module with no runtime tables or counters. In practice, a network management system would use the sysObjectID value defined here only to identify the specific VPN Router hardware variant, then switch to other Nortel MIBs for actual status polling. No concrete monitoring scenario can be built from this module alone.
