Category: Firewall, IP Addressing
Description: Covers DHCP server and relay setup on NetScreen ScreenOS devices, including address pools and lease parameters.
Start monitoring vendor-neutral, standards-based MIB, any SNMPv3-capable network device (SNMP engine identity/boot/clock status) with a free 30-day trial of IPNetwork Monitor. Import MIBs, browse SNMP OIDs, create custom SNMP monitors, configure alerts, and monitor any SNMP-enabled network device from a single console.
What Is NETSCREEN-SET-DHCP-MIB?
NETSCREEN-SET-DHCP-MIB is a Juniper/NetScreen vendor-specific MIB (module netscreenSetDhcpMibModule, under the NETSCREEN-SMI netscreenSetting branch) that covers DHCP server and relay configuration on NetScreen ScreenOS firewall appliances. Its single nsSetDhcpTable, indexed by nsSetDhcpIfIdx, reports per-physical-interface DHCP service mode (nsSetDHCPService: none, dhcp-relay-agent, or dhcp-server), the configured relay server name (nsSetDHCPRelayServer), whether DHCP relay traffic is secured over VPN encryption (nsSetDHCPVpnEncryp), and a persistent internal interface identifier (nsSetDhcpIfInfo) that survives device resets. As a configuration-visibility MIB rather than a statistics MIB, it lets an operator confirm which mode each interface is running in and whether relay traffic is protected, without exposing lease counts or pool utilization. It depends on NETSCREEN-SMI for its object identifier root and on standard SNMPv2-SMI/TC imports otherwise. It is deployed on NetScreen ScreenOS firewalls (now under the Juniper brand) providing DHCP services to trusted-network interfaces, and administrators can start a NETSCREEN-SET-DHCP-MIB download from Juniper's legacy archives to load the module into their MIB browser.
IPNetwork Monitor allows you to monitor SNMP objects defined in NETSCREEN-SET-DHCP-MIB. Use the built-in SNMP Monitoring Browser to explore available variables, view their current values and descriptions, and select the objects you want to monitor. You can then create SNMP monitors, configure thresholds, and receive alerts when monitored values change.
Supported Devices
- NetScreen/Juniper ScreenOS firewall appliances
Monitoring Examples
An operator polls nsSetDHCPService and nsSetDHCPRelayServer for a branch-office interface expected to relay DHCP requests to a central server; an nsSetDHCPService value of none where dhcp-relay-agent was expected would explain why devices on that segment aren't receiving IP addresses.
What Can Be Monitored
- per-interface DHCP service mode (server/relay/none)
- DHCP relay server address configuration
- DHCP-over-VPN encryption enable flag
- per-interface DHCP configuration table entries
