Description: Tracks mobile device contact registration, reachability, and location state.
Start monitoring vendor-neutral, standards-based MIB, any SNMPv3-capable network device (SNMP engine identity/boot/clock status) with a free 30-day trial of IPNetwork Monitor. Import MIBs, browse SNMP OIDs, create custom SNMP monitors, configure alerts, and monitor any SNMP-enabled network device from a single console.
What Is MOBILE-CONTACT-MIB?
MOBILE-CONTACT-MIB, described in its module text as a "Definition MIB file for transferring handset information," is an apparently academic/research-originated MIB (its 'university' object suggests a university-authored registration arc) for exposing mobile handset contact-list data over SNMP. It carries handset software information (handsetOS) alongside contact list and phone number tables (contactListTable, contactNumberTable) with an overall contactCount, essentially modeling the handset's address book rather than classic device sensors. Its monitoring value centers on the software status of the handset — which OS it reports and how many contacts/numbers are currently registered — rather than uptime, temperature, or CPU-type telemetry. There is no indication of dependency on standard IETF device MIBs; it appears to be a bespoke MIB built for handset-to-network contact synchronization research or prototyping. It would be deployed in an experimental mobile device management or handset telemetry context rather than a mainstream commercial NMS, with the MOBILE-CONTACT-MIB MIB itself reading as a research prototype rather than a production standard.
IPNetwork Monitor allows you to monitor SNMP objects defined in MOBILE-CONTACT-MIB. Use the built-in SNMP Monitoring Browser to explore available variables, view their current values and descriptions, and select the objects you want to monitor. You can then create SNMP monitors, configure thresholds, and receive alerts when monitored values change.
Supported Devices
- mobile handset / smartphone
- research or experimental mobile device management platform
Monitoring Examples
Polling contactListTable (indexed by contactListIndex) returns contactName entries, while the related contactNumberTable (indexed by contactNumberIndex) returns contactID/contactNumber pairs; comparing the row count against contactCount would reveal a truncated or out-of-sync contact-list transfer, and handsetOS confirms which handset OS version reported the data.
What Can Be Monitored
- handset operating system
- contact list entries
- contact count
- phone number list
- contact registration state
