Description: Manages MITEL DNS resolver and server configuration and query statistics.

Start monitoring vendor-neutral, standards-based MIB, any SNMPv3-capable network device (SNMP engine identity/boot/clock status) with a free 30-day trial of IPNetwork Monitor. Import MIBs, browse SNMP OIDs, create custom SNMP monitors, configure alerts, and monitor any SNMP-enabled network device from a single console.

What Is MITEL-DNSGROUP-MIB?

This is a Mitel private MIB for managing DNS resolver and server configuration on Mitel telephony/networking platforms, part of Mitel's IP networking management suite. It exposes DNS configuration objects (domain name, primary/secondary DNS server, query order, answer TTL, DNS port, filtering enablement) along with query statistics (total queries, filtered queries, local vs. external query counts and failures). Its monitoring value is in software/service status: query failure counters reveal DNS resolution problems that could disrupt call setup or device registration on a Mitel voice/IP system, and the filtered-query counters show how actively DNS filtering policy is being applied. It is a Mitel-proprietary MIB but conceptually mirrors standard DNS server management, typically deployed alongside other Mitel networking MIBs on the same platform. It is deployed on Mitel IP telephony/communications platforms where reliable internal DNS resolution is critical to device and service registration. Engineers can download the MITEL-DNSGROUP-MIB file directly to load it into their MIB browser.

IPNetwork Monitor allows you to monitor SNMP objects defined in MITEL-DNSGROUP-MIB. Use the built-in SNMP Monitoring Browser to explore available variables, view their current values and descriptions, and select the objects you want to monitor. You can then create SNMP monitors, configure thresholds, and receive alerts when monitored values change.

Supported Devices

  • Mitel IP telephony/communications platform

Monitoring Examples

An administrator would poll mitelDnsStatsQueryLocalFail against mitelDnsStatsQueryLocal to detect a rising local DNS resolution failure rate that could be causing phone or endpoint registration issues. mitelDnsGrpPrimaryDns and mitelDnsGrpSecondaryDns would be checked after a network change to confirm the correct DNS servers are configured. mitelDnsStatsQueryFiltered relative to mitelDnsStatsQueryTotal shows how much traffic is being blocked by DNS filtering, useful when troubleshooting a service that suddenly can't resolve an external hostname.

What Can Be Monitored

  • configured primary/secondary DNS servers
  • DNS query totals and failures
  • local vs. external query counts
  • DNS filtering activity
  • answer TTL and query order configuration
